Question Type - Checkbox, Dropdown, Radio Button, or Extended Checkbox
Home > (Select - Application Name) > Application Settings > Sections and Questions > (Select - Section Name) > Select - Add Question
Checkbox, Extended Checkbox, Dropdown, and Radio Buttons all allow you to create a listing of values for the applicant to choose from.
Checkbox: This question type allows the applicant to select multiple items from a list of values and is used when you only have a few choices to provide.
Extended Checkbox: This question type allows the applicant to select multiple items from a list of values and is used when there is a long list of possible answers. The applicant can click one or more of the items listed or the All button to select all items. To clear the checkmark from all checked items, click the None button. Once all applicable items have been checked, click the Ok button to save the choices.
Radio Button: This question type allows for a single selection from a list of values and is used when you only have a few items.
Dropdown: This question type allows for a single selection from a list of values and is used when you only have a few items, such as a list of states. Once the applicant clicks on the arrow in the dropdown field, a listing with the available selections will display.
Once you select a question type of Checkbox, Extended Checkbox, Radio Button, or Dropdown, the Add Value(s) button will display next to the Type field. Click the button to add all valid values from which applicants will be able to select an answer.
The Display Values window will display.
Label: The value that the applicant sees in the list of items displayed for the question. If the value for the Label is the same as the Value after you enter the Label click the plus sign on the end of the row and the Label value will be added to the Value field for you.
Value: This is the actual value result provided for the label. This is not viewable by the applicant, as it may contain additional data that should only be viewed by staff. This value is by filtering and conditional logic and displays in reports. It is useful for the internal coding of values that the applicant does not need to see.
After you enter the Label and Value, click the plus sign on the end of the row to save the row and create a new row for additional Label/Value combinations.
Note: When using the Dropdown question type, always start the first item in your list with the word Select in the Label and Value fields so that it is the first value in the listing. If you do not add Select, it will automatically answer the question with the first value in the list.
Editor: If you have a long list of selected items, the editor box allows you to make changes to the values you have entered. The editor can also be used to copy and paste long lists of values. In the editor, each Label and Value must be separated by a ~ (tilt) and no spaces between the Label and Value. The item to the left side of the ~ (tilt) is the Label and the item to the right is the Value.
If you need to delete a Label/Value combination, click the red X on the row you need to delete.
Click the Save & Close button to save all values you have entered.
Click the Cancel button to abandon any changes you have made and return to the Add/Edit Question page.
